The coltage-fed load resonant inverters using a single active switch are commonly applied for induction-heating cooking appliances which include some advantages such as reduced switching losses of power semiconductor switch, low cost and ocmpactness due to simple configuration as well as easiness of power regulation .This paper presents comparative performance evaluations of each generation IGBt and MCT incorporate into the simplest voltage source type load resonant inverte which is developed with a single active switch, for induction-heating rice cookers in feasible household applicances. New generation IGBTs in addition to MCT have been improved in order to reduce the conduction loss due to these of lowered saturation voltage characteristics. In lthe first place, the steady-state comparatice characteristics of each generation IGBT are demonstrated on the basis of single-ended quasiresonant inverter operating at zero voltage soft weitching. In the second place, a loss-temperature analyssi fo the latest IGBT is discussed and evaluated as compared with the previously-developed generation IGBT. In the third place, the further reduced saturation voltage and conduction loss characteristics of MCT are presented in comparison with the state-of-the art IGBT.
