Based on the acoustoelasticity, a non-contact ultrasonic stress measuring method is proposed, in which ultrasonic wave velocity is precisely measured by use of a laser Doppler velocimeter together with a sing-around unit or a digital oscilloscope, and the method is applied to determine residual stresses in structural elements.
