Dense silicon carbide (SiC) matrix composite is one of the most prospective candidates for a material of gas turbine hot pans because of its high temperature stability, high thermal conductivity and high Young's modulus In this work, dense SiCmatrix composite reinforced by Hi-Nicalon on directional fiber with boron nitride (PN) coating was fabricated by a slurry impregnation and a subsequent reaction sintering process Tensile strength behavior at room temperature and in situ fiber strength was evaluated. Measured ultimate strength of the composite was compared with the prediction made on the basis of in situ fiber strength characteristics and available analytical model.
