The reducibility of a series of high surface area Ce_xZr_1-xO_2 mixed oxides with x= 1, 0.8, 0.68 and 0.5 has been studied using differetn techniques: FT-IR spectroscopy,using methanol as a probe,magnetic susceptibility measurements,using a Faraday microbalance,and TPR measurements.All the methods showed the increase of Oxygen Storage Capacity (OSC) with the zirconium substitution.Ageing of the materials by heating at 1173 K under airfor 6h,pointed out a higher thermal stability of the mixed oxides,together with an enhanced OSC measured by alternate CO-O_2 pulses.
