In the present analysis, the characteristics of heat transfer and flow on three-dimensional mixed convection in a horizontal square channel with heat transfer side walls (Tw = 20°C and 40°C, Fig. A-1) were examined numerically for five kinds of fluid temperatures. The working fluid was water and the flow was assumed to be laminar and incompressible. The SIMPLE procedure and QUICK scheme were used to solve the governing equations through a control volume. The kinetic viscosity and thermal conductivity depending on temperature were considered in governing equations. Various fluid temperatures affected the generation of swirl flow, the number and the intensity of vortices at cross section. Flow reversal was generated at the entrance section. The intensity of secondary flow and pressure drop between entrance and exit depended on Gr/Re{sup}2. Heat flow reversal from and to the side wall existed simultaneously on the same wall in the case of higher or lower fluid temperature than both side walls temperatures (Fig. A-2).
