Influence of nitriding and tempering temperature (550 - 620°C) during toughening on fatigue strength of 4140 steel /BS 530 H 40/is presented. Nitriding time in the range 4 - 16 h had not significant influence on the fatigue limit. Fatigueproperties of 4140 steel are determined by the temperature of tempering before the nitriding process.
