An integrated information management system was developed to manage and evaluate a wide variety of physical, chemical and geologic information collected as part of an innovative technology field demonstration project at a former manufactured gas plant site. The information management system was built on top of a GIS-based site database platform into which all site related data has been loaded. The project is a cooperative effort to demonstrate the efficacy of a number of emerging field investigation technologies at MGP sites. The demonstration project focused on non-intrusive geophysical methods and on direct-push instrumentation for physical and chemical characterization. The information system design included development of information transfer protocols to achieve data compatibility with technology vendors and coordination with the technical evaluation team to overlay vendor results on top of remedial investigation results to assess comparability and sensitivity. The information management system enables rapid comparisons of interpretive results from vendor technologies against actual visual observations and analytical data collected from remedial actions.
