Substantial sand extractions from the Outer Weser between Weser-km 67 and 87 were necessary for the extension of the Container Terminal CT III in Bremerhaven (fig. 1) It was the aim of a monitoring programme to examine the morphological changes and the ecological effects caused by dredging activity on the Weser bottom. Five new groynes taking off from the guiding wall at Robbenplate were built between 1987 and 1992 to stabilise the fairway of the Outer Weser. The unsuitable building ground at the site of the Container Terminal extension had to be exchanged and was dumped in the groyne fields. The following contribution will report of the influences of the constructional measures along the guiding wall at Robbenplate that are superimposed on the dumpings in the groyne fields and on the sand extractions from the Weser Fairway for the construction of CT III.
