The influence of two different outer contours of wedge shaped hydrogen injectors on the flow field and the mixing and combustion characteristics in a scramjet model combustion chamber was investigated. Various diagnostic techniques were applied in this detailed examination. It could be shown that the surface geometry of the inject-tors and the resulting potential to produce streamwise vortices for mixing enhancement has a distinct influence on the combustion process and the related heat release inside the combustor. The results of wall static pressure measurements under nonreacting test case conditions are similar for both injectors, which indicate similar flow fields. In the reacting test case, however, the wall pressure increase is signifycantly different, which indicates different rates of heat release within the length of the combustor. Furthermore, it could be revealed that the three dimensional structure of the hydrogen-air contact surface depends on the injector, resulting from the unlike induction of the streamwise vortices by the dissimilar surface contours of the injectors.
