摘要

This study intends to be a help for preparing design materials to ensure proper illuminance and work surface luminance taking into account the characteristics of visual objects and workers. The experiment is conducted to obtain a subjective evaluation of legibility and brightness when reading is made under steady adaptation. In this experiment, variables such as size, contrast, illuminance, and age are examined. It is demonstrated that the subjective evaluation is influenced by worker's visual acuity, and that the effects of aging can be dealt with as the decrease in the visual acuity. Relative Acuity(RA) is proposed as an index to represent the relative size of visual objects according to the individual visual acuity. Use of RA allows presentation of an evaluation diagram in which visual acuity is incorporated in the evaluating conditions in addition to the three elements of visibility; size of characters, luminance contrast and background luminance.
