Analysis of the various causative factors responsible for accidents related to mobile Crane operations at construction sites of various process plants and recommend implementation of corrective measures to mitigate the risk. This study encompasses crane related incidents, including near-miss cases in construction activities related to petrochemical and refinery project sites in India and abroad. Though the details of the incident are being shared, it is not necessarily due to the operation any particular company or group of companies and can not be disclosed due to ethical reasons. Nearly 100 crane related cases were taken for study from various project sites of various organizations (a mix of owner and contractors). The cases were analyzed from various angles including the operator factor, equipment fitness and environmental conditions. This analysis depicts the various causative factors including ergonomic factors that influences work practices and lead to causation of incidents during construction of various process plants. It is noted that human factors have a major role for all such mishaps and it is likely to continue to draw attention from all concerned who are in control of these conditions.
