摘要

Carbon quantum dots (CQDs) have generated increasing interests worldwide since their first discovery when separating carbon nanotubes in 2006. Due to such prominent performance as convenient chemical modifications, a lack of blinking, low photo-bleaching and excellent biocompatibility, a wide range of applications of CQDs have been developed and extended in various fields including photo-catalyst, sensing, photoelectric device, phototherapy and bioimaging. Biomass wastes such as candle soot , food waste and other carbon-based biomass materials could be used as starting materials for chemical oxidation cutting route. Based on the above discussion, here we report carbonized walnut shells as starting cutting materials in chemical oxidation process to produce controllable CQDs. Applications of CQDs in biological field are always popular topics and biomass based CQDs as novel cellular imaging reagent were included in this work. Raman imaging technique was first applied in detecting the CQDs distribution in vivo, and the interaction between cells and CQDs were also explained as well, laying a basis for developing further applications of walnut shells based CQDs in bioimaging and disease diagnosing.
