The technology to physically protect a dangerous machine is well understood today by users, due to the EEC directives and European standards EN292, EN953 & EN294. Nevertheless, it is necessary to let an operator enter in a protected zone in a safe way with all dangerous movements stopped. The electrical detection devices and their connections to the safety circuit of the industrial automated machine are well codified due to the standards EN954-1 and EN1088. Our field experience in Europe demonstrates a lack of understanding between the physical action to open a door and its action on the safety circuit. We have worked on developing a method and a system to define the right way to safely enter a protected area. We have based our research and development on the analysis of the four following parameters.
