Background/Objectives. A pilot study will be implemented to evaluate the radius of influence of a zerovalent iron (ZVI) and organic carbon amendment (EHC?) and the effectiveness that it has on reducing concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in groundwater downgradient from a closed landfill site in Antioch, California. The landfill accepted municipal and industrial waste from the 1950s to 1987. In addition, up to ten unlined liquid waste ponds were in use from the 1960s through approximately 1974. It is believed that leaching from these ponds is the primary source of VOCs in groundwater, which include tetrachloroethene and its daughter products, carbon tetrachloride and its daughter products, 1,2-dicholoropropane, and benzene, among others.
