摘要

Background/Objectives. The University of Miskolc, Department of Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology is a leading research entity in hydrogeology in central and eastern Europe. In its recent research project (titled WELLaHEAD) the team has dedicated its effort to a complex research agenda related to various quantitative and qualitative groundwater management issues. The test areas are research sites from northeast Hungary, one of Europe’s least developed regions, however some of the research results have much broader impact on contaminant transport knowledge and site remediation protocols. One of the focus areas of the research is related to heavy metal contamination of former ore mines in Recsk and Rudabanya and the groundwater quality monitoring of the Almasfüzit? red mud waste disposal site.
