The world's population is predicted to increase from its current 5.8 billion to over 8 billion by the year 2030. The emerging markets of today will require high quality food and feed legumes to meet the growing demand for protein and dietary fiber. The transition to a global economy will create new wealth and new opportunities for legumes that can be easily processed into consumer-friendly products. As the economy of the world grows, so too will the demand for animal protein. Niche markets for high quality legumes for animal consumption will continue to expand as the livestock industry increases its need for inexpensive protein supplements with superior quality. As the world population and economy expands, the demand for a variety of high quality legume products for human and animal consumption will increase accordingly.
