An optimal allocation procedure for reducing the seismic risk of an existing road network by appropriate preventive upgrading interventions, under a constriant on the available amount of economic resources, has been developed. In this paper, the procedure is illustrated with reference to an example case. The vulnerable elements of the road network are reinforced concrete bridges. Different objective functions are considered, in the context of single- and multi-objective optimal allocation of resources: the optimizations are carried out by means of dynamic programming.
