Geostatistical method of indicator kriging was used to model and analyse samples of methane (CH_4) contents of coal in advance of development roadway operations to highlight areas of outburst potential. The technique was based on the gas9methane) threshold stipulated by the Department of Mineral Resources which identifies the level at which operations may be liable to become dangerous to health and safety of personnel. Local estimations highlight the proportion of the mining areas, if any, where the risk of developing through may endanger the lives of personnel and the implementation of precautionary measures may be required before mining can proceed.
