Research on the molecular basis of disease development and disease therapy is at the spotlight of biomedical sciences; the case of tumor progression and drug response is of paramount and vital significance. Yet, current investigation methods of physiological changes rely on time-consuming immunoassays and histopathological examinations mainly. The inherent complexity of biological systems makes the validation of proposed cancer markers in many cases debatable, and the search for specific disease markers is still an ideal attainment. Raman spectroscopy (RS) can provide specific molecular fingerprints in a non-invasive and non-destructive way, and has been addressed over the last decades as a potential alternative technique for probing biological systems. Raman scattering has proven to efficiently discriminate normal biological cells and tissues from cancerous counterparts. While most reliable tests are obtained from tissue grades with rather macroscopic changes, the investigation in living cells is less popular and is challenging due the difficulty to handle the living and changing cell and consequently to interpret and delineate the inherent unspecific but rather predominant variability.' Moreover, the study of detailed differentiation steps of tumorigenicity is an even more challenging task. Here, one would like to shed light into the understanding of the detailed molecular steps of tumorigenicity, and the underlining benefit of how tumor would respond to potential drug candidates.
