The report is devoted to the development of one of the possible solutions to the problem of the safety of potentially hazardous electrophysical systems. The problem consists in ensuring safety under conditions involving exposure to extreme external factors. The solution presented below was initially proposed in a paper given at the 17th ISSSC. The design concept presumes the creation of a special structurally protected space (SPS). The SPS contains a functional element that is responsible for the generation of a potentially hazardous electrical signal and is surrounded by a "weak link" that insulates the protected functional element and takes the form of a protective shield. The capabilities of the new SPS shield with its multilayer structure are examined. It is demonstrated that the protective shield is capable of ensuring safety under various extreme conditions (fire, flooding, mechanical damage).
