A 2-year-old, 1.6-kg male mallard duck (Anas platyrhynchos) was presented exhibiting clinical signs associated with acute respiratory distress. The duck had been attacked by a raccoon in the previous year resulting in 4 lacerations around the neck, developing recurrent episodes of respiratory distress since then. Radiographs, air sac tube placement, blood work (complete blood count and plasma chemistry panel), and tracheoscopy were performed. Surgical correction of the collapsed segment of the trachea resulted in resection of 9% of the total length and anastomosis. The bird was evaluated by tracheoscopy 2 and 3 months after the surgery, revealing a healthy mucosa, minimal reduction of the tracheal lumen in the area of anastomosis, and minimal suture granuloma formation.
