We reanalyze the prompt neutrino flux from gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) on the basis of the particle physicsinvolved. Using the example of the often used reference Waxman-Bahcall GRB flux, we show how a specific flux shapedominant loss mechanisms, and flavor mixing. We also discuss the robustness of this prediction in diffuse or stackedfluxes, which depends on the distribution of the burst parameters. For example, we show that the redshift distribution isdominated by z1.
