Interest in periodic, pulsing drug release has increased in recent years due to the need to produce systems for the replacement of hormones which are released endogenously in periodic pulses, for certain cancer chemotherapies, and for drugs that exhibit tolerance. To this end the use of chemical pH-oscillator has been explored, with the idea that an oscillating pH leads to oscillations in permeability of weak acidic or basic drugs across lipophilic membranes.~1
