摘要

The administration of plasmid DNA encoding antigenic proteins to induce humoral and cellular immune responses is emerging as an exciting immunization strategy (1). Delivery of the plasmid DNA via microparticles (<10 mu dia.) helps target the DNA to antigen presenting cells (APC), thereby initiating the induction of immune responses (2). Microspheres provide the added benefit of protecting the encapsulated DNA from enzymatic degradation in-vivo. Microspheres comprised of poly(lactic acdi-co-glycolic acdi) (PLGA) are normally used in this regard, due to their biodegradability, biocompatibility and history of safe use in humans (3).
