In the practical field of solid pharmaceutical formulations, studies of the physical aging and hydration of polymers are of great importance. since polymers are the additives used to convert pharmacologically active compounds into pharamaceutical dosage forms suitable for administration to patients, knowledge of the physical aging effects on the drug release of final products is therefore essential. In thsi paper, the author attempt to elucidate the fundamental concepts of physical aging in polymers, and correlate the effects of physical aging on the polymer hydration properties with changes in the drug release of sustained release solid dosage forms.
