Recently, much attention has been focused on developing controlled drug delivery system using polymers, These developments led to the formulation of trandermal drug delivery system (TDS). There are several dosage forms for TDS such as patch, ointment, lotion and gel forms and can be roughly categorized into a patch form and semisolid forms of ointment, lotion and gel. In spite of various advantages, each form also has some disadvantages. The major disadvantages of patch form are easy detachment by movement at joint region (knee and elbow) and inconvenience because of no or little elongation of the patch form. In the semisolid forms, the formulation should be applied several times at disease sites and gives disomfort at applied site due to stickiness of the dosage forms. In order to improve the patient compliance and clinical efficacy of TDS, a film-forming TDS has been attractive as a novel form to administrate drug through the skin (1-3). When this dosage form is applied to the skin, polymer film with drug is formed on the skin after the removal of volatile cosolvent (ethanol/water) and then drug can peentrate through the skin.
