Phospholipid vesicles have been successfully employed in studying structural changes of the bilayer membranes under different conditions (1-5). The vesicles appear as prototypes of natural biomembranes, and the formation of their complexes with bipolymer fragments may reflect real biological processes (2-4). For understanding mechanisms of functioning of DNA/RNA contacts, a number of works was devoted to the study of interactions between DNA or synthetic polynucleotides and phospholipid vesicles in the presence of bivalent metal cations by various techniques (1-4). Therefore, our goal was to develop the model system of liposomes / poly A:poly U duplex/ magnesium ions to study the lipid-nuclein interactions in detail and find some approaches for these DNA/membrane contact problems (using the IR-spectroscopy, DS-calorimetry as well as ~1H and ~31P NMR-spectroscopy).
