Because of their low melting temperatures, the extraordinarily stable oxide layer on the material surfaces, and their tendency to corrode in combination with other metals, the brazing of aluminum alloys is always a challenge for the user. However, soldering is an efficient and economic alternative to other techniques and often represents the only possibility to make material-conclusive connections between the adding partners. Based on current research activities new soldering procedures for aluminium are presented. Studies are introduced, in which the use of solder pastes or the application of thermally sprayed multi-component coatings serving as reactive brazes have been investigated. A further topic is the application of gaseous activators for fluxless soldering of aluminum alloys.
