The electrode processes of rare earth metallic ions reduced on inert and soluble electrodes in chlorides and fluorides melts were investigated. Many surface layers of rare earth alloy were obtained by cathodic alloying. The rare earth master alloys were prepared by consumable cathode and codeposition methods. Electroreduction of Fe~(2+), Co~(2+) and Ni~(2+) in urea-bromide melts were investigated. The rare earth metals can be inductively codeposited with iron group metals. Over twenty of rare earth-iron group alloys were obtained in these melts for the first time. The content of rare earth in the deposits changed with the cathode potential, current density, molar ratio of RE~(3+)/M~(2+) in melt. The deposited films present an amorphous structure. The crystallizing process was investigated.
