Stringed musical instruments tones are inharmonic. Inharmonicity is mainly comes from the stiffness of a string. There are many studies that try to investigate detailed mechanisms of inharmonicity. However, there are few studies that investigate cognitional effects of inharmonicity. When we intend to improve timbres or to design musical instruments, it is very important to understand how inharmonicity affects on one's perception. In the present paper, we investigated cognitional effects of inharmonicity. Through a psychological experiment, we found that controlling inharmonicity can be an effective way to control timbres and cognitional effects of stringed musical instruments.
