A theoretical study of the far acoustic field behind a couple of parallel sound reflective barriers erected at both sides of a highway is performed by a specifically developed numerical simulation model based on the multiple image method. The problem of the sound pressure level increases with respect to the case of absence of acoustic barriers occurring at some distance from the highway due to multiple reflections between the barriers is analyzed. The influence of the surrounding ground on the total acoustic field is also considered. Results relevant to high density light automotive traffic are reported and discussed.
