A seedling bioassay was performed using numerous commercial plant species to test for growth effects from a solution containing a potential tuber-inducing factor (TIF~(TM)). TIF~(TM) is characterized by a reduction in vegetative growth and hastened tuber induction in potato. To test if TIF~(TM) has activity on other species, seeds of a number of commercial plants (turf grasses, bedding plants, and vegetables) were exposed to TIF~(TM) and the effects on growth determined. The tests indicated that TIF~(TM) affetct shoot length on 5/16 species (31 percent), root growth on 6/16 species (37.5 percent) and the ratio between root length and shoot length in 9/16 species (56 percent).
