The phases present in a 2205 DSS have been mapped using an in-situ SRXRD technique. Regions of complete and partial transformation of ferrite and annealing of untransformed ferrite and austenite in the HAZ are also identified using SRXRD. Partitioning of nickel, chromium, and molybdenum at the ferrite/austenite interfaces in the HAZ is also confirmed by micro-chemical analysis. An existing model for the calculation of the thermal history of the weld is coupled with the calculation of diffusion of various alloying elements across the ferrite/austenite interface. The results demonstrate the role of different alloying elements on the ferrite/austenite transformation and the effect of HAZ location on the resulting phase transformation behavior.
