In the present paper, the formulation based on averaging theory is developed for simulating unsaturated soils as a 3-phase nonlinear elastic media. The model is implemented in a new finite element code. This code is able to use different expressions given for state surfaces and soil properties. Comparing the experimental measurements of drainage from a sand column with the results of this model verifies its validity.
