A Dynamic Reanalysis Technique for Modifications of Structural Components

A procedure for the reanalysis of the dynamic response of linear systems subjected to deterministic loads is presented. The procedure allows to evaluate the dynamic response of the modified structural system avoiding both the solution of the new eigenproblem and the evaluation of the associated transition matrix related to the new structure. The method is able to solve also the case in which topological modifications are introduced. In this case, known the eigenproperties of the original structure, the equation of motion of the modified system are written in a reduced space by means of the Ritz vectors. Lastly an unconditionally stable step-by-step procedure based on the dynamic modification method is applied to find the dynamic response of the new structure. The proposed method is computationally very effective since it does not require any eigensolution and leads to very accurate results as shown in the numerical applications.
