High temperature ceramic composites were obtained by rapid solidification from melts in the ternary oxide system Al_2O_3-Y_2O_3-ZrO_2. The composition and stoichiometry of crystallized phases were determined by means of XRD analysis. Micro structural features were studied by means of SEM and optical microscopy. Quasi-binary eutectic composites were solidified near the alumina-zirconia binary line. Ternary composites containing alumina, zirconia-based solid solution and yttrium alumium garnet (YAG) showed ordered structures in their SEM micrographs. The formation of quasi-ternary eutectic microstructures was observed.
