摘要

Neuroendocrine tumors of the gastrointestinal tract (GI NETs) are rare in human beings. The prevalence of GI NETs in human beings is about 3-4 cases per million population, with 55 percent carcinoids, 25 percent insulinomas, 10 percent gastrinomas, 2percent vasoactive intestinal polypeptidomas (VIPomas), 2 percent glucagonomas, < 1 percent somatostatinomas, and 5-6 percent non-functioning tumors or pancreatic polypeptidomas. Epidemiological data like these are not available for dogs and cats. In addition, several of the GI NETs recognized in humans have not yet been described in veterinary patients. To date the list of GI NETs described in dogs or cats is limited to insulinomas, gastrinomas, carcinoids, glucagonomas, and pancreatic polypeptidomas.
