During the professional career of Neal FitzSimons one of his many goals was to publish three particular works. The first was an effort to further the work of James K. Finch. Finch was a member of the Class of 1906 at Columbia University and would go on to become Renwick Professor and later the Dean of the School of Engineering at Columbia. Finch had written "The Story of Engineering" published in i960. Upon his death, Neal was bestowed the collection of Finch history papers. Neal's hope was to someday create an expanded international history of engineering, which he jokingly referred to as his "magnum opus."
