摘要

This study compares outcomes following coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) using cold and warm blood retrograde cardioplegia. There were more patients with impaired Left ventricular function (p = 0.001) and higher mean logistic EuroSCORE (p = 0.004) in the warm retrograde cardioplegia group, but despite this there were no significant differences between the groups in MACCE and mortality. However, more patients required intra-operative and postoperative IABP in the cold retrograde cardioplegia group (p =0.04). This study shows reduced intra-operative and postoperative IABP requirement with continuous warm blood retrograde cardioplegia. This may reflect the superior myocardial protection provided by continuous warm blood retrograde cardioplegia as has been reported in the literature.
