In this paper we have investigated the effect of Ba loading on the catalyst performances of Pt-Ba/Al_2O_3 samples in the storage-reduction of NO_x species. The higher is the Ba content, the lower is the surface area and Pt dispersion, but the NO_x adsorption process is more efficient, i.e. higher amount of NO_x are adsorbed on the catalyst surface. Calculations showed that the higher the Ba content of the catalyst, the higher the percentage of Ba involved in the reaction, up to 16% for the sample with Ba = 16.7 % w/w (amount of NO_x stored near 4 x 10~(-4) moles/g catalyst at 350°C). This effect has been associated to the involvement in the NO_x storage process of Pt-Ba neighboring species, whose amount increases on increasing the Ba loading in the investigated composition range.
