In concurrent engineering, specialists from different organizations join a development team to achieve a certain business purpose. The resulting organizational hierarchies can be described using the concept of virtual organizations in which every participant contributes his core competencies to achieve the overall goal. Actual IT architectures support the traditional hierarchical managerial control paradigm; they have in general a centralized system architecture. The objective of this paper is to introduce an approach that aligns the technical fracture of the IT architecture and the organizational structure of virtual engineering organizations by using a Peer-to-Peer network.
