Higher yield is always important goal in every winter wheat breeding program. Different genotypes are showing different influence on different traits that have high or low influence on yield. Creation of new genotypes with better composition of important traits is primary goal in Croatian winter wheat selection programs. The investigation of different traits that have influence on yield was conducted on 24 winter wheat breeding lines and cultivars. The experiment was set in split-plot design in fourreplications; on a basic plot of 7.8 m^. We measured different traits: ear length; kernel number per ear; ear weight; 1000 kernel weight and yield. Considerable variations existed for all measured traits. This variation is indication of different parents used in hybridization and different types of selection. Breeding line 114 achieved the highest yield (10.83 t/ha). This line has best combination of all measured traits.
