Twenty accessions of T. dicoccum Schiibler have been evaluated in three contrasting sites localized in Central and South Italy. The accessions have been also evaluated at the DNA level by ESTs, SSRs and ISSRs markers. The results have shown distinctive molecular traits and the existence of a large amount of diversity between accessions. The genetic distance data have provided information for a correct identification of the analysed material and hence to support its registration as varieties, to monitor on farm conservation and to assist emmer wheat breeders.
