A new technology is on the rise and it is my pleasure to introduce to you a new technology for injection molding - the Injection Molding Compounder (IMC) What is an Injection Molding Compounder? It is the combination of a standard clamp of a molding machine with a twin screw compounding machine as known from the compounding industries for years. The novelty of this technology is on the injection side, where a twin screw compounding machine takes over the plasticizing function of a reciprocating screw. The injection and holding pressure functions are carried out by a plunger injection unit. This way, the plasticizing function is separated from the injection/hold function. This also means that a continuous and a discontinuous process have to be combined, since the compounder delivers best quality only if it is run in a continuous mode.
