摘要

Application of remote sensing data to the estimation of vegetation cover has been an active area of research for many years. The objective of this study was to determine if historical measurements of vegetation cover on monitoring plots coupled with measures of cumulative precipitation could be correlated with satellite spectral response. In this study, prior point-intercept and line-intercept vegetation cover measurements were applied to assess multiple vegetation components based upon their morphological traits. These components included grasses and forbs, litter, bare soil, shrubs, and trees. Simple linear regression was utilized to investigate the relation between vegetation components and satellite signals with precipitation data. The results showed that it was possible to estimate vegetation cover measures as well as systematically monitor current conditions based upon the regression models.
