This is a field case study of a microergonomic intervention in a food manufacturing company “where the outcomes and results were better than expected”. This paper explores the enabling factors that occurred following the microergonomic intervention and the processes leading up to the company’s approval to spend USD 87 000 on a workplace improvement for a purely OH&S justification. Considerable commitment by a number of individuals, aligned with a culture receptive to innovation has been necessary to obtain company commitment to this capital expenditure. For ergonomists, it offers a real life view of the time frames, complex interactions of company and production processes, current and future business goals, staff and cultural factors that need to be considered in order for our recommendations to be successfully integrated.
