摘要

There are few data on antimicrobial use in the Canadian dairy industry. The objective of this ongoing study is to determine the antimicrobial usage patterns of dairy veterinarians and free stall dairy producers in Ontario. Surveys assessing aspects ofantimicrobial use were mailed to all producers with free stall dairy barns (N=849) and all livestock veterinarians (N=331) in the province of Ontario. From a list of producer survey respondents, 25 herds were randomly selected for enrolment in a longitudinal on-farm study to track individual and herd level antimicrobial drug use for one year ending Dec. 31,2002. Each farm is recording individual and group drug treatments using a paper-based Livestock Treatment Record. Drug use is being validated usinga Garbage Can Audit (GCA) system. GCA data is being collected quarterly so that seasonal variation in antimicrobial use can be assessed. Data presented are from the first and second quarter of 2002.
