Using a DNA fingerprinting method (pulsed-fleld gel electrophoresis) to study isolates of Rhodococcus equi, it was not possible to clearly differentiate isolates from different countries, different regions within Texas, or even the same farm. Only onvery rare occasions will it be possible to link infections to a given farm or geographic region using DNA fingerprinting.
