Scratching resistance is a feature of furniture surface indicating the coat durability when furniture is produced,as well as its long-term stability during use when exposed to mechanical agent action. For the producers of coating materials on porous heterogeneous wooden substrate, scratching resistance is an important factor helpful for a choice of the proper coat. This feature is partly influenced by wooden substrate when the coat is thin.Importance of this factor is also visible in furniture surface classification, regarding to its range of use in furniture construction:worktops, shelves, fronts, horizontal surfaces of side components, furniture cupboards front panels or,in general, surfaces for light or heavy duty performance in furniture. The method of scratching resistance determination adapted from the liquid paint and varnish industry was introduced for furniture surface testing in Poland [1].
