Graywater, defined as wastewater generated in the household from sources other than toilets, accounts for more than 50% of domestic wastewater (1). Therefore, graywater reuse is an important strategy to compensate for depleting resources of renewable fresh water in the world. Aqueous ammonia (NH{sub}4{sup}+/NH{sub}3) is one of the pollutants in graywater, and an excess concentration of NH{sub}4{sup}+/NH{sub}3 in water will deteriorate water quality due to depletion of dissolved oxygen (2). Too much NH{sub}4{sup}+/NH{sub}3 can also be toxic to aquatic life (3, 4). In addition to NH{sub}4{sup}+/NH{sub}3, synthetic surfactants are also commonly present in graywater due to the use of personal care products in households (5).
